The Latter House's Glory II(Countless Houses of Gods)
Still reflecting on "The Latter House's Glory", we ask the question: since in our last reflection we saw that right from creation God picked mankind to be His house, "how come the countless houses of God in the world today?"
From grandiose sacred cathedrals to lofty monumental mosques, and Hindu temples with intricate carvings, to tranquil simple Buddhist monasteries and traditionalists shrines with sun-bleached skulls, 'houses of god', varied and innumerable, dotting every corner of the world, are testaments to man's religiosity.
It's quite interesting that there's absolutely no people group ever contacted (no matter how primitive or isolated) that didn't already evolve at least a deity and a worship system.
Why is mankind so religious?
Fact is, since the fall, mankind has been searching for what was lost, namely, 'Zoe'—God's own life—wherein lies _"...glory and honour and immortality, eternal life."—Romans 2:7.
We comprehend this better when we understand the big picture painted in Genesis 1:1-2: that God created a perfect heaven and Earth (in verse 1); however, the earth (Adama) became formless and void, as darkness had taken over it (in verse 2). Lost in darkness, shapeless and void, mankind groped blindly for the Living God. And, eager to fill the emptiness—'the God vacuum' within him, but tossed about by the deceptions of devils, man ended up creating countless gods and religions.
The prophet Isaiah declared of old: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way;..."—Isaiah 53:6.
*Selah!*
Truly, although countless 'houses of god' exist around the world, yet, within their walls are worshippers left unfulfilled—groping in futile, fleshly labours for what was lost—life eternal!
About two thousand years ago, Jesus, the Life of the world, witnessed this sad scenario at the Temple in Jerusalem during the feast of booths which celebrated God's presence and provision for the Israelites in the wilderness. As He watched the worshippers vigorously chant the Hallel Psalms (Psalms 113-118) which praise and call to the living God (whom Jesus actually was among them), while pouring pitchers of water on the Temple stairs (symbolizing the Holy Spirit, which Jesus will pour out on His believers), "in the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink."—John 7:37
Selah!
Yes, indeed, although countless may be the "houses of God od'' exist in the world today, the true God remains unaffected. As the scriptures says, "God who made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of Heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands. Neither is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, seeing He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things."—Acts 17:24-25
The Lord of life will only dwell in that which He Himself has built—the living temples of His Holy Spirit. As the apostle, Peter revealed, "Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ."—1 Peter 2:5.
Are you such?
